In response to rumors in the Japanese media, SM Entertainment has announced that there has been no official decision made about when TVXQ‘sYunho will be beginning his military service. However, a representative of SM told Xportsnews that it seems that he will be heading to the army as an active-duty soldier before the year is over, in order to fulfill his required military service.

According to the Japanese newspaper Sankei Sports, Yunho cried as he said goodbye to fans on April 2 at a concert at Tokyo Dome. SM Entertainment has confirmed that TVXQ member Yunho will be enlisting into the military sometime this year.

Comments made on stage during TVXQ's Japanese dome tour were scrutinized by netizens and the media alike. "Although we won't see each other for a while, please wait for us cheerfully. We promise to return!," Yunho stated.

Yunho's comments caused people to speculate that he would be enlisting into the military soon. At 29 years old, he was approaching the upper age limit for mandatory enlistment.

SM Entertainment confirmed through a statement that Yunho will begin his military service this year. However, a date has not been set yet.

Yunho joins several other popular idols who are also enlisting this year. Jaejoong, Shindong and Sungmin have all begun their military service. Other idols are expected to enlist throughout the year.

Label Reps Won't Say When In 2015 TVXQ's U-Know Yunho Will Enlist In The Army: 'Time Period Has Not Yet Been Decided On'
By Jesse Lent | April 03, 2015 01:35 PM EDT

TVXQ vocalist Jung "U-Know" Yunho's emotional outburst onstage at a Tokyo Dome performance on Thursday was more than mere nostalgia for the 10-year anniversary of his group's Japanese debut.

"Although we can't hold concert tours for a while, we promise to come back," Yunho told the crowd, with tears streaming down his face, according to the Korean entertainment publication DBSK Sleepless Knights.

On Thursday, representatives from the 30-year-old pop star's record label, SM Entertainment, announced that Yunho will report for his 21 to 24 months of mandatory service in the South Korean army this year (the length of mandatory enrollment changes by several months depending on which branch of the military the soldier serves in).

But the SM reps stopped short of specifying exactly when the TXXQ singer would be reporting for duty.

"It's true Yunho is planned to enlist as an active duty soldier this year, but the specific time period has not yet been decided on," the statement read. "As he does have to go this year when looking at his age, it seems that's why he said that at the concert. Timing wise, it was their last tour of Japan before enlistment."

All eligible male South Korean citizens between the ages of 18 and 35 currently must sign up for the roughly two years of required army service or face jail time.

On the Korean entertainment website allkpop, TVXQ fans left hundreds of comments expressing their grief and frustration at the group's impending hiatus.

"I really don't want him to leave for two years," wrote a fan identified as EXO Lover 20040506. "I'm really crying, for real! I will really miss him a lot, but I will also be waiting for him. Yunho...I love you so much."

K-popper Ctg Col seemed to get at the core of what many might be thinking regarding the status of the two-man group.

"I wish him success while he's serving, but two years without TVXQ music?" the fan asked. "Changmin please [enlist] this year too, so that it's not four years without TVXQ."

Currently there have been no official reports regarding the enlistment of Yunho's bandmate. Though back in September, according to a post on the blogging website BlogSpot, the sister of a TVXQ fan who ran into Max Changmin in Rome, Italy claimed the singer told her it was his "last time" on vacation before joining the army.

Though it has yet to be announced which of the six branches of the military Yunho will serve in, the climate is probably not as hospitable to celebrities as it was a few year ago, when high-level stars were able to serve in a division called the Promotional Support Brigade, forgoing the military duty for a nonstop series of concerts and events aimed at boosting the morale of other soldiers.

All of this came to an end in 2013, when a film crew from the South Korean TV news program "Scene 21" filmed K-pop stars Sangchu from the group Mighty Mouth and Se7en entering a massage parlor known for providing erotic services. Other members of the division could be seen wandering the streets after curfew out of uniform, using personal cellphones and purchasing alcohol at 2 a.m. following an army-sanctioned concert.

The footage and the resulting public outcry in South Korea that it caused, led to Sangchu and Se7en receiving a 10-day sentence in military jail and the elimination of the Promotional Support Brigade.

Despite the SM statement on Yunho's enlistment, reportedly prompted by rumors surfacing in the Japanese media, TVXQ will presumably continue their performance schedule as planned.

The group is slated to perform in Los Angeles on May 2, as part of the Korea Times Music Festival.

(UPDATE) TVXQ: Yunho’s Army Enlistment Confirmed, Idol Breaks Down At Concert
    Lainey April 5, 2015

SM Entertainment’s K-Pop idol duo TVXQ recently completed their 10th anniversary tour in Japan at the Tokyo Dome, where member Yunho spoke about his impending military enlistment. It was reported that he shed tears as he greeted fans, and it wasn’t only because the duo were celebrating their 10th debut year in Japan.

“Although we can’t hold concert tours for a while, we promise to come back,” Yunho told the crowd, with tears streaming down his face.

Born in 1986 and standing at 29 years of age, Yunho is at the age where he should soon be enlisting and fulfilling his military requirement as a South Korean citizen.

SM Entertainment later confirmed that Yunho will be enlisting this year but added:

The date for his military enlistment has not been set yet. Since he is at the age where he must enlist this year, it seems that is why he mentioned it at the concert. It was their last Japanese concert before their military enlistment.

For fans, this means that they won’t be seeing their beloved idol for 2 years.

TVXQ’s other member Changmin, who was born in 1988, is also coming to the age where he will enlisting soon, but there has been no word about him joining Yunho in the army as of yet.

Should Changmin join Yunho this year, then at least the wait for a TVXQ comeback is only 2 years instead of 4.

Nevertheless, things have been emotional for the fans and the duo. At their Tokyo Dome concert, he was seen breaking down and crying uncontrollably as he tried to sing. Fans cheered him on while Changmin looked on with a sad expression on his face.

    Watch:

TVXQ will be joining the festivities in this year’s Korean Times Music Festival at Hollywood Bowl, Los Angeles, on 2nd May.

    UPDATE (9th June, 1:38PM):

SM Entertainment have taken to multiple social media platforms to confirm that Yunho isn’t going to enlist on 6th July, as the earlier reports suggested.

The company confirmed in their latest press statement that the singer “will begin his military service on 21st July. It was reported that he will enter the basic 5 weeks of training before carrying out “his service as an active duty soldier for 21 months”. The agency also commented, “Respecting the artists’ decision, we will not be revealing the time and location. We sincerely thank you for all the love and support for U-Know.”

No further details regarding his enlistment, but fans can catch the final moments of TVXQ! together at their encore concert in Seoul on the 13th and 14th June. Yunho will also be releasing his Japanese solo album on 8th July.

[Updated] TVXQ’s Yunho to Enlist in the Military in August?
    kiddy_days April 30, 2015

    Update:

SM Entertainment has clarified that Yunho’s enlistment date is still undecided and emphasized that as they said earlier a few weeks ago, his enlistment will definitely be this year and he will enlist as an active duty soldier.

    Original:

News of legendary idol group TVXQ’s Yunho‘s military enlistment has arrived.

According to a number of associates in the industry, the talented singer-dancer-actor is planning on enlisting to the military in August. Born in 1986, Yunho is required to enlist before the end of the year.

In the last leg of their most recent five-dome 10-year anniversary concert tour “Tohoshinki Live Tour 2015 ~WITH~” in Japan, he had mentioned that his enlistment is approaching, saying to his Japanese fans, “This will be the last time I will be able to see you at a solo concert in a while.”

Recently, Yunho was cast in the web drama “I Order You,” and is getting ready to film. He will begin to film in May, and starting in the middle of June, 16 episodes will air. It seems that he will start to get ready for his enlistment as soon as he finishes the filming.

Meanwhile, on April 30, TVXQ announced two encore concerts in Seoul for June 13 and 14, “TVXQ! SPECIAL LIVE TOUR – T1ST0RY – & …!” The concert promises to continue ‘another story’ of TVXQ. As this is most likely TVXQ’s last chance to meet their fans at a solo concert before the members’ enlistment, the concert is expected to be a meaningful time to be shared with a number of passionate fans.

SM Entertainment responds to rumors about an August military enlistment for Yunho
    April 30, 2015 @ 10:10 pm

As you know, TVXQ's Yunho will be enlisting some time this year to carry out his military service, and sources say that he'll be doing so in August. That sounds far away at first, but if you think about it, we're already into May!

A media outlet reported earlier that industry insiders have tipped them off that Yunho will prepare to enter the army in August, once he wraps up filming for his upcoming web drama. Yunho will begin filming for 'I Order You' in May and the episodes will come out in mid June.

When asked to confirm, SM Entertainment representatives stated vaguely, "Yunho's enlistement date has not been set yet. But he will begin active service within this year."

As previously stated, as a 1986-er, Yunho's age requires him to enlist this year. He will be following fellow 1986-ers JYJ's Jaejoong, Super Junior's Sungmin, as well as actor Choi Jin Hyuk, who entered the army this past March.

Whichever month Yunho does end up entering the army this year, we hope those 21 months of service go by quickly!

According to latest reports, TVXQ‘s Yunho is expected to enlist in the military this August.

Yunho’s impending military enlistment was foreshadowed after the artist revealed it would be the last time for awhile he will be meeting with Japanese fans at the 10th anniversary tour earlier in April. Born in 1986 and standing at 29 years of age (30 years old in Korea), Yunho is well at the age where he must enlist.

However, before he enlists, he will be completing several activities, including appearing in an upcoming web drama series I Order You set to air in mid-June for 16 episodes. Following the end of the drama, he will be enlisting.

UPDATE: SM Entertainment has clarified that the enlistment date is still to be decided. However, as they indicated a few weeks ago, the idol will definitely be enlisting in active duty this year.

SM Entertainment delivers sad news for fans, TVXQ's Yunho's enlistment date confirmed
    June 8, 2015 @ 10:18 pm by serendipity

Well, SM Entertainment was right earlier, TVXQ's Yunho isn't enlisting on July 6 as the earlier reports suggested... because he's enlisting on July 21! Do you hear the sounds of fans wailing already?

The agency announced, "Yunho will be entering the basic 5 weeks of training on July 21. Afterwards, he will carry out his service as an active duty soldier for 21 months."

As for the specific time or location? That's being kept a secret. "Because Yunho wants to enlist quietly, we will not be revealing his enlistment location or specific time out of respect for his wishes," the agency commented. However, we're sure dedicated fans will have no problem finding those details out!

With the date finalized, make sure you do all that you can to catch the final moments of TVXQ together at their encore concert in Seoul on the 13th and 14th, and support Yunho by picking up his Japanese solo album set for release on July 8!

K-pop singer Yunho will enlist for his mandatory military service on July 21, according to an official announcement by his agency Tuesday.

Yunho, whose full name is Jung Yun-ho, is a member of K-pop duo TVXQ, which is managed by SM Entertainment.

“Yunho will take part in boot camp for five weeks before serving in his active military service for 21 months,” his agency said.

The singer wishes to enlist quietly and has hence declined to disclose the specific time and location when he will report for duty.

Yunho, 29, is currently shooting the rom-com Web drama “You Order” (literal translation), broadcast online by SBS.

TVXQ plans to hold its ongoing “Special Live Tour - T1ST0RY” world tour in Seoul on Saturday and Sunday.

Mandatory military service for about two years applies to all able-bodied South Korean men, in a country that is still technically at war with North Korea.

SEOUL, June 9 (Yonhap) — U-know Yunho of the K-pop male duo TVXQ will enlist in the Army next month to begin his mandatory military service, his management agency said Tuesday.

The 29-year-old singer whose original name is Jung Yun-ho will enter an undisclosed boot camp for five weeks of basic training on July 21, S.M. Entertainment said.

After the training, the singer will serve on active duty for about 21 months.

The agency, however, said it will not disclose the location or time of his entry into the military out of respect for his wishes.

U-know Yunho is currently shooting SBS Plus’ Webdrama “I Order You.”

All able-bodied South Korean men are subject to compulsory military service for about two years in a country that faces North Korea across a heavily fortified border.
